First thematic report from IPES-Food: 'From Uniformity to Diversity: A paradigm shift from industrial agriculture to diversified agroecological systems'

(02.06.2016) - Input-intensive crop monocultures and industrial-scale feedlots must be consigned to the past in order to put global food systems onto sustainable footing, according to the world’s foremost experts on food security, agro-ecosystems and nutrition.

The solution is to diversify agriculture and reorient it around ecological practices, whether the starting point is highly-industrialized agriculture or subsistence farming in the world’s poorest countries, the experts argued.

IPES-Food and the new science of sustainable food systems: Who shapes food systems, and who has a say in how they are reformed?

(20.05.2015) - Who holds the power to shape food systems, and who sets the terms of debate when it comes to reforming them? These were the questions asked by the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems, IPES-Food, as it launched its first report.

The report, entitled The New Science of Sustainable Food Systems: Overcoming Barriers to Food Systems Reform, proposes a new analytical lens for food systems, and makes the case for reaching beyond the traditional bounds of the scientific community in conducting this analysis.
